Older Dog Problems
My older dog is having a problem going to the bathroom in the house?

My 9 yr old border collie has recently started to poop and pee in the hallway. I have tried disciplining her by rubbing her nose in it and putting her in our mud room alone, but she wont stop. The strange thing is that she does it after i let her outside to go to the bathroom with the other dogs. Does anyone have any tips??

Thanks

Did you learn to use the toilet by way of your parents smashing your nose into your filthy diaper? I'd imagine not.

Dogs do NOT learn this way, and whomever made up this ridiculous "training" method should be kicked in the throat.

Putting her in the mud room just separates her, she has NO idea why she's in there. Dogs hardly ever connect human-made punishments to their actions.

Here's an idea, rather than letting her out with the other dogs, let her out on her own or WALK her. This way you'll KNOW if she's done her business, rather than just assuming that she has because she's coming back in with the rest of your dogs.

She needs an all-over vet exam along with a fecal test and urine culture to make sure she doesn't have any type of bladder infections that might cause incontinence.

Chances are she's out there following the other dogs around or playing, rather than doing her business. If she's alone, she's going to sniff around and go, if she's walking she'll do the same thing.

STOP rubbing her nose in it, you're going to cause SERIOUS upper respiratory infections by doing that. Urine and feces are FULL of nasty and potentially fatal bacterias, not to mention-- would you want YOUR nose rubbed in your crap?
